Message for our Politicians
We have just witnessed the passing of a general election that took place on the 4th July 2024. This was an election like all elections that had a period of campaign and canvassing activity where each party tried to demonstrate to the electorate that they were the party that could provide a better Britain for the whole of society. The definition of "whole of society" would be "people of all socio-economic classes, all people of different states of mental & physical health, people of all ages, race, gender and sexuality". It was unfortunately the case that no political campaign of any party focussed on the human right interests of those living with mental & physical health complaints. The SNP in Scotland were forever guilty of just speaking about child poverty, opportunities for the young, growing the economy, tackling climate change and improving public services. No where was there a mention of the social inclusion of those with mental health and physical health complaints who had through no fault of their own become socially excluded. There are many with mental health and physical health complaints who have skills, knowledge, experience and alot to offer who are living off universal credit and other state benefits with no employment prospects who society has just forgotten about. These people feel ignored and neglected creating feelings of animosity and other ill feeling further damaging mental and physical health. Society as a whole has a very judgemental as well as right wing attitude towards those with mental health and physical health conditions resulting in many human right violations of those affected by such conditions such as bullying, discrimination, neglect and the refusing of services to or the providing of low quality services by those obliged to provide the public with a service. No political party focusses on delivering for this fraction of the population and therefore it is about time this was brought to the attention of both politician and media so a greater issue can be made of it at the next Scottish Parliament election. Cognitive Harness therefore is appealing to anyone who lives in Glasgow who has a mental health condition or physical disability who has been left unsatisfied by a politician or any other person in position of authority after reporting to them an experience that needed resolving that was related to their mental health condition or physical disability. If you have had such an experience we would like to know so that we can collect these experiences of those with mental health and physical health complaints and bring them to the attention of the politicians and media so that mental health and physical disability rights can be made a much greater priority of. Our politcians for too long have avoided talking about these very complex areas of politics. On a govanhill media website (Voter Guide for Govanhill/Glasgow East: your questions answered by candidates — Greater Govanhill) politicians of different parties were all asked what their stance was on the following areas: CHILD POVERTY, RENTAL CRISIS, COST OF LIVING, FOOD INSECURITY, LGBT RIGHTS, PALESTINE, ASYLUM SEEKERS, CLIMATE CRISIS & SUPPORTING INDEPENDENT MEDIA. Nowhere on this website were the politicians sharing their views and plans for people facing social exclusion and compromised human rights as a result of mental health conditions or physical disabilities.
