ADVOCACY SERVICE (Free of charge)

Cognitive Harness provides a one to one advocacy service to those with mental health conditions who are experiencing conflicts with or are unhappy with decisions that have been made by authorities such as social work, housing associations, educators, occupational therapy, occupational health, employers, council tax departments etc. Advocacy is a service that involves representing a client whose experienced an injustice as a result of a power imbalance that exists between the client and the authority they are either in conflict with or has left them compromised.

The advocacy service is provided by the same practitioner who provides the mental health symptom self-management service who used to run an advocacy charity called "Fairway Advocacy" that provided advocacy services to those with neurological disability, learning disability and mental health conditions. This charity came to an end in August 2017; after three very successful years, as a result of 'The Roberston Trust' wishing to change their priorities over who they funded and therefore chose to only fund the much larger neurological charities that had been much longer established.

The practitioner decided in early 2024 to advocate for an old client of Fairway Advocacy who the social work were ignoring and the housing association were being unkind to which is what inspired the practitioner to start offering mental health advocacy services making Cognitive Harness the first organisation to provide both 'Medical model services' i.e. symptom management, as well as, 'Psycho-social model services' i.e. helping people resolve the political and societal challenges that living with mental health conditions creates for a person.

Cognitive Harness advocacy service is just as commited to the person with a physical disability as the person with a mental health condition.

This service is free of charge however the service is funded through client donations therefore donations are both essential and welcomed.
